Does the Past Affect the Present?
I believe that the past does affect the present. Past events effect how we deal with things today as Americans. Everything that has happened in the past can try to be avoided because we learn from most of the mistakes we make. If some things were altered from the past then our present would be very different.
- Advances in technology is also an example on how the past affects the present. We have advanced a lot through technology since the invention of the lightbulb by Thomas Edison. We have made advances in industrial machines, weapons, and air traffic control. This shows how the past affects the present because many events were in different time periods with different technological advancements. When there is worse technology there is a lot more problems with health issues which causes more people to die then when we have more advanced technology. So therefore, when we had historical events in the 1800's they were a lot different then in the 1900's.
- Slavery is another example of how the pasta affects the present. There is still racial discrimination to this day but we do not refer to African Americans as slaves in this century. Slavery never repeated because of the Slavery Abolition movement. There were some events that happened that were similar to slavery, but no one actually used African Americans as slaves after they abolished it.
- The first and second world wars had similar circumstances that , but they both have different reasonings and motives behind them. World War I and World War II both had similar global impacts. The motives or causes of World War I was alliances, imperialism, militarism and nationalism. The causes for World War II were the treaty of versailles, Adolf Hitler, and failure of league of nations. The causes and motives behind the war are both very different but they both resulted in a lot of the same impacts on countries. Therefore, one did not cause the other because more events came up in history after World War I that caused the upbringing of World War II. World War II was affected by World War I, there were different motives and ideas behind it.
